Create a Memorable and Definitive Favicon

Create a Memorable and Definitive Favicon

Scrolling through my bookmarks and I realized my past blog favicon was a little dated. It had followed the style of my past blog theme, but not my current. A favicon is a small icon that appears next to your URL in a web browser. Readers can favorite your site and with many browsers it will also save the favicon. Having a favicon can bring old users back who may have forgotten about your blog or site. Making a favicon is easy; making one that people will remember is slightly more difficult.

BuyMyTronics: Now Buying More “Tronics”

BuyMyTronics_newlogo

I sold my video iPod about four months ago to BuyMyTronics, which at the time only bought iPods. They have expanded the number of electronics they are accepting and you can now submit your cell phone or game console. BuyMyTronics rids you of the hassles of eBay and will buy any gadget: new, used, working, and even broken. The better condition and the more accessories you’ve kept for the gadget will mean more money in your pocket.

I have a couple old cell phones and an original Xbox (which has become the 360’s stand) that I was considering submitting to BuyMyTronics. The Xbox (which includes the box, TV cords, and the power cord came out to be $18.00, which is low compared to what you might get on eBay. The first cell phone I tried was a two year old LG flip phone (which included the box, charger, and charging dock). It was in pretty good condition, but BuyMyTronics would only buy it from me for $0.00, which doesn’t seem quite worth it (especially after paying for shipping). I tried my year old Motorola phone and it had the same fate.

No Money for me

BuyMyTronics has grown into a great site to sell your new or used gadget. Customer service, if you need help, is quick and understanding (much better than eBay’s). If you’re looking to get rid of an old cell phone, I would recommend recycling it at a Staples. The old cell phones go to undeveloped countries which feels better than a couple bucks in your pocket. Right?

Turn A Priority Box Into A Free Shipping Box

Flat Rate and Out of Control
eBay users are always looking for the cheapest options for shipping. The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers free boxes, but they require you to send the boxes Priority mail, which is usually the most expensive. After working in the postal business for a few years I have learned a little trick.

Advertising and Blogging

Billboard
One of the biggest mistake I have made when blogging is advertising. When I first started blogging, I had every sort of advertising program possible. Then one day it hit me, advertising is worthless if you don’t have frequent content. After considering my blogging situation, I decided to cut back. Now I’m only using Google Adsense and I’m making more than what I used to.

My advice to any blogger is to always have more content than advertising. 3/4 content and 1/4 advertising is the maximum amount of advertising you should ever have. Another tip is to make have advertising that doesn’t get in the way of your content. You won’t make as much, but your readers will be happier and more likely to come back. Google Adsense is a perfect ad program to put in a blog.

If your advertising hopes have faltered consider going ad free. You might be paying for monthly hosting, but if you love to blog that shouldn’t matter.
