The “I’m Starting a Blog” Test
Blogs are a dime dollar a dozen now and when I see a promising blog introduce itself to the internet only to lie deserted until the hosting plan isn’t renewed, I get irritated. I’m not going to name names, but I have concocted a (YES or NO) test for maybe bloggers.
1. Will the blog be updated at LEAST once a week?
2. Is the blog going to be used primarily for media (writing, pictures, video)?
3. Will the look of your blog define the direction of your content?
4. Do you have a willingness to read (and maybe even comment) on a fellow blogger’s blog?
5. Do you know your audience (or future audience)?
6. Are you starting a blog to express your opinions?
6a. Will your opinions be swayed by advertising programs?
6b. Will your opinions hurt or offend a certain group of people?
7. Can you accept criticism?
8. Can you accept the occasional overly-harsh remark?
9. Can you ask for help?
10. When blogging, are you enjoying it? sounds dirty
If you answered every question (excluding 6a and 6b) with a YES. You’re already on track to be a blogger that can work hard and be willing to grow. It will be hard, but if you can start with high standards, you’re already ahead of 75% of bloggers on the internet. I wish you luck.
Send me a link to your blog when you get a chance. mail[at]r3fresh.com

Loren,
The points in your post made me think about my impending web site and whether I have the right stuff.
The only question I could not answer a “yes” to was question 5. I am not exactly sure who my audience will be because the content will be somewhat eclectic. Maybe the best description of my future audience will be dilettantes with adult attention deficit disorder – basically people like myself
Thanks for a thought provoking post.
