The One Reason NOT to get a Mac

Every year Macs are becoming more popular. Windows users are flocking switching to Macs rather that attempting to try and update to Microsoft’s interesting operating system known as Vista. But if there is one reason not to switch to the Mac, I have it.
On a Windows computer, I have found it to be the perfect place for getting work done including school papers, blog posts, and even just checking/writing my email. With a Windows computer you’ll start something and usually finish it in a respectable amount of time. I would like to say I could do the same on the Mac, but I can’t. Writing an English thesis paper on my Macbook will look promising at first, but then I’ll find myself navigating through the iTunes Store or reorganizing the files in my documents folder. No, I don’t have an attention disorder, but maybe I’ve psychologically made my Mac a computer for “fun stuff” and my Windows computer for “work stuff.” Is it because I grew up on a PC during most of my childhood education? I thought it to be true until I noticed that I wasn’t the only one with this problem.
Searching through the pages of (the now hacked) MacApper, I found dozens of “Getting Things Done” or GTD applications specifically to end my problem. The only problem with these GTD applications is that they take more time away from your work, especially when trying to set them up. I’ve spent a couple hours on a GTD app only to delete it the next day.
I then (now wasting time) tried to give this condition a name. Mac Attention Deficit Disorder, MADD, is already been taken. Any ideas?
Back on topic, if you’re going to get a Mac you need to know that you won’t get as much work as you once did on your Windows machine. Why? Mac OS is too pretty, has animated everything, and it could even be a psychological thing. They say creative people use Macs, possibly because the Mac can be the doodle on the side of your page or writing on your hand.
Writing this post I have replied to five Pownce messages, downloaded a new song on iTunes, attacked a zombie (and lost) on Facebook, and emailed an old classmate.

Hmm Okay I am sorry to say this but you ONE reason to not buy a mac is stupid. I am a happy and productive mac user, I get my work done on time or at leas at the same amount of time as I would have on a PC.
Now I don’t wanna go into why I have switched from PC to mac. But I will remind you that all of the “problems” that you have identified on the Mac can be and are being accessed by PC all day long. SO what is the ONE reason not to get a Mac that is unique for the mac ?

@Nicki
Yes, I suppose it is true on a mac or a pc, but on a mac it’s much easier (to get off track). Windows can maximize to full screen and cover up many of the apps, while on a mac a full screen maximize neither looks good or is easy to do, so other windows are showing.
Thanks for you input Nicki.

ok Loren, you are really putting me in a difficult position here. If my wife sees this post, there will be a MAC under our holiday tree this year. We both want a MAC in the house, but she is really after one. Let’s see if she tracks us down.

Oh. Great. Nobody should buy a Mac because you start to do other things than what you intended. How logical! /end sarcasam
Seriously though, if you didn't do random other things on your mac when trying to do work, I promise that you would be doing your work as fast if not faster than you could on a PC.
Oh, and a reason TO buy a mac: No need to upgrade (often). My 9 year old Blueberry G3 iMac is running faster and better than a 2 year old Windows machine. And also, my 2007 Aluminum Intel iMac runs XP FASTER than many computers i've seen labeled “Designed for Windows XP, Vista Compatible.” Think about that for a second.

i don’t think that many people have the problems you associate with the mac, however there are plenty other reasons for not getting one. if you think that apple has managed to get rid of the most shameful problems people link to windows, you’re very WRONG. if you think that you will not have to unplug your notebook and remove the battery to get it working again either because 1. it’s frozen or 2. the login dialogue does not come up or 3. some automatic update has screwed up something or 4. cannot turn on the bluetooth you’re wrong again. it’s amazing how many people are fooled to believe that they can leave those annoying windows kind of issues behind if they switch. it’s shameful that many of those will disturb you in the mac environment as well.

I found it hilarious the people posting here are.
Learn to take a joke, dumbasses.
People like this are the reason why everyone thinks Mac users are generally less intelligent; way to ruin it for the rest of us. ~_~

I dont know if i just saw that right, you said macs are stupid because they can do more than your silly little head thought that they could do. That is by far the stupidest thing I have ever heard anyone post on the internet.

One of the things I like about blog posts is that they provoke an idea in my mind. Once that happens, I feel as I need to provide feedback wishing it will be pleasant to some people. For the reason that there are many blogs with different points of view, they question your comprehension. It is at these occasions when you have helpful insignt others may not have had, along with the blogger himself/herself. I find myself coming back to to your blog only because you have numerous great insights and you happen to be at this a very long time, that is very exciting and tells me you know a lot. Keep sparking imagination in others!
