Ratings, Comments, and a Little Video
Hey readers. I just wanted to update everyone on the current state of r3fresh.com. At the moment, site hits have evened out and I’m seeing at least 150 hits a day, unless I have recently posted.
I’m still looking for a rating system. Right now I’m using an early version of the Outbrain rating widget, but it needs some serious work. The widget doesn’t save information so somebody could game the ratings, it offers no stats other than the one the public sees, and the widget itself seems to take up a lot of room. I’ve started looking into another rating system, JS-kit, but I haven’t played with it long enough to put it up on the site. If anyone else has any ideas on rating systems please leave it in the comments. Thanks.
Others, as well as myself, have been having trouble posting multiple comments. I’m trying to figure out the problem so bare with me until I figure it out. I have been looking for a new theme for a couple of weeks now and haven’t really found anything I like. I want to stop using a theme based on k2, because I have problems that no one can help me with. If anyone has found a cool theme (with mostly white space) I would like to give it a try. Thanks.
Finally, I just want to thank everyone for the help and support. To wake everyone up I embedded this interesting (and money saving) video I found stumbling around. Enjoy!

Hi,
Thanks for giving the JS-Kit Ratings service a try. If you need any help or have suggestions on how to make the service better just give us a shout at support@js-kit.com
Our Ratings service (which can be used to rate any post, product, URL, etc.) also supports a Top Rated badge. This badge displays the top rated content across your site. Top is designed to lets visitors easily navigate to your best work.
We are also releasing an enhanced multi-level service next week. The new service first went live on TechCrunch here:
http://techcrunch40.com/2007/demopit_company.php?demopit=65
Site can use the new service to Rate multiple aspects of an object instead of just one 5 Star rating.
Best & Good Luck with your site,
Khris

Hey –
1st – thanks for giving our widget a shot.
Regarding your comments:
1) We do save the ratings in the backend and do all spam filtering there. We didn’t think it would be a good user experience to authenticate every person who rates before accepting the rating.
2) Regarding stats – we do offer more comprehensive stats for the blog owner, but have not released that yet. We’ll shoot you an email with access to our testing version of this.
3) Regarding the space we take up – we made every effort to take as *little* space as possible (no “powered by outbrain” or crap like that). It seems like there’s some line breaking issue specific to your blog template which is causing it to take more space than usual. We’re working on a fix right now!
Again – thanks for giving this a shot. I’m sure you’ll like it as we work with you through the points you noted.

Hi again –
We’ve released an updated version of the widget which fixes some of the layout issues we encountered on your blog. So things should be looking good now!
Thanks again for your feedback.

I’ll be testing out both to see which one I like the best. Thanks for your support JS-kit and outbrain.

[...] blog is really easy, but finding a good widget is a little bit harder. After I posted that I was looking for a rating widget, I got tons of email from different websites telling me about their service. [...]
