Gickr: Create Animated Gifs The Easy Way

Randomly wandering the internet allows me to find some very interesting sites and Gickr is one of them. Gickr has made creating animating gifs incredibly easy by allowing you to upload pictures (and Flickr photo’s) to their site to create one.

The site itself is beautifully designed and is really self explanatory when it comes to making an animated gif. Uploading can be a little slow, but once you are done they allow you to embed the animated gif into your blog or myspace page and your set.

Gickr is great and I would have blogged about it before, but for some reason the site just disappeared. Luckily, the site is back up and working great so go try it out or just go look at the gallery.

PS-For all those forum(ers) who like to put those stupid pictures in their footer, Gickr will be beneficial to you and all of you anime loving friends.
Here’s an animated gif of Britney before she lost it (including her hair).

Itunes on Vista runs like a Dog

After spending some time with iTunes on Vista I have started to hate iTunes. iTunes has become slow and unresponsive even on a brand new (core duo, 2 gigs of RAM) PC. Connecting iPods to iTunes makes it that much worse and tends to freeze iTunes for up to two minutes. Apple really needs to fix this mess, because I have resorted to using Windows Media Player to listen to music and that’s really sad.

In my opinion iTunes has been slow and sloppy ever since they added video. iTunes is bloated and is starting to become unusable if you don’t have a super fast computer. Even on my six month old Mac it runs slowly. I am disappointed.

Most Common Reactions of a New Mac User

I am a recent switcher (about a year) to a Mac and I didn’t know how different Mac OS X really was. Here is a list of some of what I think are the biggest reactions when someone switches to a Mac.

  • “Where are my applications?”
  • “No right click?”
  • “What are those arrows on my dock?”
  • “Oh, the application is still open.”
  • “Where is the menu bar?”
  • “No word processor, there has to be one”
  • “What is Finder, and why can’t I close it”
  • “No maximize?”
  • “Green X is not maximize.”
  • “Photo Booth is the best App.”
  • “Why doesn’t Ctrl+Alt+Delete work?”
  • “I hate that beach ball.” (and I still do)
  • “Why do I have to connect to my Airport, I just want to connect to the internet?”
  • “Oh man, Where is IE?”
  • “I deleted a shortcut, right?”
  • “Eject…What…Where…oh.”
  • “Why is the compass jumping?”

After using a Mac you find it to be much easier than using the Windows operating system, even if it takes a little bit to get used to it.

The Daily Twelve

If your like me, your on the internet everyday and you have your must-read sites. Here is a list of the twelve sites I visit everyday:

  1. TechCrunch: Michael Arrington (and friends) have created an informative and current blog about the internet and whats happening in it. You can read about the next social network or who Google is buying next all in one place.
  2. The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW): I am an Apple guy and I am not usually interested in all of the completely stupid rumors about what Apple is going to do next. TUAW seems do tone it down when it comes to rumors and is a little more focused on applications than on anything else. Engadget - Gadget + Apple = TUAW.
  3. Autoblog: Like any other guy, I LOVE cars. I don’t care what kind of cars as long as they are fast and beautiful. Autoblog is a simple and easy read that will leave the average car fan full, but will leave avid fans wanting more.
  4. Consumerist: My newest visited site, Consumerist, isn’t tech related like most of my sites, but I find it very interesting and funny. Who knew a blog about complaining would be so good?
  5. Gmail: Not news, but I have to check my email sometime.
  6. Xbox 360 Fanboy: I know I have a lot of Weblogs, Inc blogs, but they are good quality and give me the information quickly. I have slowly stopped reading this one because Joystiq has been posting the same news too.
  7. WiiFanboy: Same as Xbox 360 Fanboy, but about the Wii. Updated daily, but only a couple posts.
  8. Joystiq: A blog about the gaming world, but I have been starting to get board with it. Nothing on Joystiq interests me anymore, they seem to be repeating the same three posts over and over again (Japanese games, Console Wars “Who’s Gonna Win,” and remembering the “old” video games).
  9. Engadget: By now I am only reading the titles of each post and don’t really care what most say. Engadget is great and is always releasing content each hour, it is almost too much sometimes.
  10. Digg: Digg is where I spend most my time because it has the most broad set of news. I love going from “Windows Vista Hacked!” to “Worst eBay Packaging Ever” and back. The site is easy to use and is well designed. If I cant find news, I go to Digg because they always have something new.
  11. Revision3: I am unsure why I go there because the only shows I watch are Diggnation and Ctrl Alt Chicken (New episodes? No) and that is it. Site is great to look through even if they release content slowly.
  12. Twit: Leo Laporte runs a great “Netcast” Network, he is always working hard to get out content daily and runs off less money than Revision3. Macbreak Weekly, Twit, and Net@Nite are my favorite podcast and I look forward to listening to them every week.

That’s my Daily Twelve.

PS-Sorry about all of the links

Buggin’ out iTunes

Over at Brycekerley.net they found an iTunes bug that has been bothering me for a while. It has to do with Coverflow and it being very blurry. A quick (but temporary) solution is to rescale Coverflow on iTunes. Hopefully, this will be quickly fixed by Apple within the next few weeks. Even though it isn’t a big deal it’s just a small detail that drives me nuts.

Youtube Better Off Not of Being Bought?

Youtube is one of the most popular website on the internet and if you live on earth you saw that they were purchased by Google for almost 2 billion dollars, but was it right?

When Youtube was just another web startup they were in major need of money and lawyers. They were always being hounded by television and other media companies because their content was on Youtube, but you know what Youtube did about it…nothing. There were so many videos of Naruto and The Office that the Youtube staff had not a chance, so the video stayed there for people (users) to enjoy.

With the Google acquisition, Youtube had changed and in my opinion not for the better. I started noticing on a lot of the video I had posted on a past blog now displayed “this video is no longer available.” Now, what will happen to Youtube when all of the television companies are done with it, it won’t nearly be as popular as it once was and/or could of been.

Now that Google owns Youtube everyone has a reason to attack them and that is why I believe they should of never sold. They should of gone all out in a blaze of glory until the site had been taken down. Then the next “Youtube” could rise up and do it again. Youtube has officially been tamed.
